Orthopaedics/Spine/Surgery

Pain-free, mobile and well cared for

Conservative orthopaedics

Conservative orthopaedics encompasses all non-surgical orthopaedic therapeutic measures aimed at improving function, alleviating pain and preventing secondary damage in all disorders of the musculoskeletal system. These measures form an integral part of every orthopaedic treatment plan. It is Dr. Sommer’s responsibility to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to the individual needs of each of his patients.

It does not always have to be surgery. Conservative treatment methods can often achieve a significant improvement in symptoms and avoid the risks of surgery.

Conservative orthopaedic services

  • Infiltrations/injections in the shoulder and elbow, knee, feet, e.g. for bursitis, tendon irritation, calcific tendonitis, cubital tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Conservative pain therapy

What are common back pains/complaints?

Back pain is a widespread condition that now affects around 70 percent of the population. There can be many different causes. Incorrect strain on the spine due to sedentary activities, for example in the office, and too little exercise are often the main reasons for pain. Both of these factors are often not sufficiently compensated for in leisure time, which can result in back pain.

According to estimates, over 80 percent of the population in western industrialised nations suffer from spinal pain at least once in their lives and require medical treatment as a result. Pain in the spine can be caused by congenital, hereditary, inflammatory or degenerative diseases of the spine, among other things.

Orthopaedic/spinal services

  • Conservative treatments for spinal disorders
  • Degenerative diseases of the entire spine (dorsal, ventral and lateral approaches)
  • Interventional pain medicine, including neurostimulation and intrathecal drug pumps
  • Spinal traumatology
  • Osteoporotic fractures of the spine
  • Tumours of the spine
  • Complex deformity correction in scoliosis (idiopathic, degenerative, traumatic)
  • Prosthetics of the cervical and lumbar spine
  • Microsurgical techniques and percutaneous minimally invasive procedures (MIS, X-LIF, open and percutaneous TLIF, ALIF)
  • Revisionseingriffe (Syndrom der fehlgeschlagenen Rückenoperation)
