Full-body MRI and cardiac CT with LIFE STYLE IMAGING Lucerne

Imaging of our internal organs is essential for a complete check-up. In cooperation with Life Style Imaging Lucerne, we are able to offer whole-body MRI and cardiac CT scans to complete a comprehensive check-up in line with modern and safe preventive medicine.

Whole-body MRI

Whole-body MRI is a particularly detailed method of medical imaging that allows high-resolution, detailed images to be produced without the use of ionising radiation, enabling the inner workings of our bodies to be comprehensively visualised.

Using strong magnetic fields and radio waves, MRI scans the entire body from head to toe, producing a complete image of the various organ systems, blood vessels and soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system, such as muscles, tendons and joints.

The whole-body MRI examination is therefore a precise and comprehensive diagnostic imaging procedure that is ideal for a comprehensive health check-up and for the early detection of a wide variety of diseases.

Advantages at a glance

  • Changes in the brain, such as tumours, shrinkage or old strokes, can be diagnosed in the head. The blood vessels of the brain are also examined so that narrowing of the vessels or pathological enlargements (aneurysms) can be detected.
  • Whole-body MRI can be used in an examination to detect complex diseases and simultaneously display the entire vascular system of the body as well as the heart, lungs and abdominal organs.
  • Whole-body MRI can also be used for the early detection of malignant tumours, such as bronchial or renal cell carcinomas, in the form of screening asymptomatic patients. This can be done with a high degree of detail, enabling tumours larger than 1 cm to be detected.
  • An MRI scan of the entire body can also be used to detect inflammatory skeletal diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Since both the small joints of the extremities and the large joints of the torso can be affected, a whole-body MRI scan is particularly informative.

Cardiac CT scan

Cardiac CT, a special imaging technique used in computed tomography, provides a detailed view of the heart and its surrounding structures. During the examination, cross-sectional images of the heart are generated, providing deep insights into heart health that are not always possible with conventional methods. Compared to a classic CT scan, which can image a variety of body regions, cardiac CT provides detailed information about the structure of the coronary arteries. This allows heart disease to be diagnosed, the risk of heart attack to be assessed and overall heart health to be evaluated. Cardiac CT can be used to rule out relevant stenoses (narrowing of the coronary arteries) with a high degree of certainty and to measure the degree of calcification of the coronary arteries. The amount of coronary calcium measured is directly related to the risk of suffering a heart attack within the next 5 years. This makes the procedure ideal for determining the individual risk of patients. Based on the determined risk, drug therapy can then be prescribed to effectively prevent a heart attack. With regard to individual risk stratification, cardiac CT is superior to both clinical tests (especially stress ECG) and laboratory tests.

Advantages at a glance

  • Non-invasive: No surgical intervention or catheter required.
  • Quick procedure: The examination takes only a few minutes, meaning that radiation exposure is very low.
  • High image quality: Detailed representation of the coronary arteries.
  • Early detection: Enables early diagnosis of heart disease.
  • Risk assessment: Useful for estimating the risk of heart attack.
